Fake Tanning Abroad

By June 6, 2023June 17th, 2023No Comments

We have some top tips for fake tanning abroad or in in warmer climates. Our Founder, Shoned, says:

“Most of us would agree those first few days of holiday and stepping out into the sun, uncovered for the first time can be terrifying right? So fake tanning just takes the edge off your winter skin.”

Tanya Whitebits products offers no protection from UVA or UVB rays. You will still gain a natural suntan therefore you will need to wear SPF sunscreen to protect your skin.

“To make the most of your fake tan on holiday we would avoid going in the pool on the first few days after application, as the chlorine can strip your fake-tan colour prematurely. Also avoid using tanning oil and use a high SPF that can be spritzed onto the body instead.”

During warm hot climates the skin perspires more so staying cool or in the shade will help maintain your fake tan. Excessive sweating will affect your fake tan particularly in glandular areas like neck, elbow, groin, underarms and behind the knees in the same way that excessive exercise can affect the outcome of your fake tan.

“A great tip is to sprinkle a little talcum powder in your bikini top and in the joints of the body that are prone to perspiring during exercise or in hot climate. This will help stop the colour rubbing and fading away in the heat. This tip also works well for those who exercise frequently. In particular, sprinkle a little talc in your sports bra and trainers if you are exercising.”

If your tan has come off prematurely and you want to extend your glow during your holiday we would recommend starting from scratch with a Tan Eraser for exfoliation and removal of old tan residue. Failure to do this will result in a patchy looking tan as you can see from the picture featured below.

You must also NEVER cover sunburnt skin with fake tan as it can look dirty and you will not be able to exfoliate away due to the skin being sensitive and raw.

Due to sweating more in warmer climates the tan tends to come off sooner in gland areas (groin, elbows, back of knees) so instead of reapplying a fresh tan on top of an old tan, which may have faded off in these particular problem areas, we would recommend exfoliating then applying a fresh tan.

Your tan life may be shortened on holiday due to factors mentioned above, but our Tan Enhancing Moisturiser will extend and maintain the tan life further, as heat and chlorine affect the tan life too.

Non-oily sunscreen or a creamy water based SPF is recommended. Waterproof SPF will help extend the tan in the water but we would advise warming it up in your hands to reduce friction on your skin before application as it will glide on better.

Due to cabin pressure, our founder recommends transporting your Tanya Whitebits tan in a sealable bag, just in case you experience any leakage during flights.

So, to conclude, Shoned recommends the essential holiday kit should contain our Self Tan Bronzing Mousse, Tan Eraser, Mitt and Tan Enhancing Moisturiser to ensure a constant safe glow on your vacation and when you return home.
