This months blog is to highlight and share a new campaign called Beauty Backed.
The 1st of August was the moment the beauty industry had been waiting for. The day when the whole industry could get back to work. However, it all came to a grinding halt the day before, with the government declaring that the return of all “close contact services” was to be postponed for another two weeks. This announcement was devastating for beauty therapists, clinicians, aestheticians and make-up artists who haven’t been able to earn a living for almost five months.
So one beauty industry powerhouse decided to take action. Caroline Hirons took to her Instagram audience of almost 500,000 followers, and made an emotional plea: “We have to do something for these people who aren’t earning money. We cannot keep letting our industry be left behind when so many people have fallen through the cracks.”
Together with the British Beauty Council, the British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology and in association with the Hair and Beauty Charity, they set up Caroline Hirons has set up the Beauty Backed campaign. A Change.org petition and GoFundMe fundraiser running in tandem, it is calling for beauty services to resume in full, while providing financial support to the businesses and families of the beauty professionals affected.
